Those things have ALL the throttle levers.

So you can throttle while you throttle.

My favorite piece of Strangelove/B-52 trivia: Kubrick asked for help from the Pentagon in making the interior of the B-52 (which was cutting edge at the time) as accurate as possible. The Pentagon wanted nothing to do with the film. The set designers ultimately reconstructed the aircraft cockpit to the best of their ability by comparing the cockpit of a B-29 Superfortress and a single photograph of the cockpit of a B-52 and relating this to the geometry of the B-52's fuselage. When some Air Force personnel were invited to view the reconstructed B-52 cockpit, they said that “it was absolutely correct, even to the little black box which was the CRM.” It was so accurate that Kubrick was concerned whether the production design team had done all of their research legally, fearing a possible investigation by the FBI.

The alert drills are the best. 15+-1 seconds between takeoffs is crazy. Of course, it’s the absolute last situation we actually want to have happen.

I love all the awesome pics. What’s the second from the bottom of though?

That’s what happens when they stick 8 engines on a plane. Gotta be able to throttle each one independently.

Got a tour through one when I was in the Navy and stationed on an Air Force base. For something that carries so much they are amazingly cramped inside.

Those are START treaty B-52Gs that were sent to the boneyard and destroyed.
They had to sit outside so Russian satellites can confirm or something to that effect.

Well thanks for the info. That’s an awful thing to see done to those beautiful planes though.

Awwwwww yiss Stratofortress. Got some Cold War era and current era MITO goodness with KC-135 and KC-10 support here! And remember, don’t breath in the smoke from the cartridge starts! The second and third videos, those crews aren’t fucking around. Could easily mistake it for a real world, the SAC professionalism is so noticeable.
